Very insightful webinar yesterday on the upcoming Omnibus Food & Feed proposal.

Valuable perspectives were shared by Flavio Facioni (Cabinet of Health Commissioner Várhelyi) and Pietro Fiocchi (Vice-Chair, ENVI Committee, ECR), whose group will hold the rapporteurship in the ENVI Committee (Mr Picaro). On the AGRI side, Herbert Dorfmann (EPP) has been appointed as Rapporteur.

Richard Mills (UPL) brought the industry perspective, while Claudio from Bird & Bird highlighted key legal considerations.

Key takeaways from a very engaged audience:

• The Commission remains open to amendments aligned with the simplification principle
• Strong support for “no ban without alternatives” in the current geopolitical context (Art. 4.7)
• Clear momentum to fast-track biocontrol solutions — with implementation still to be defined
• Increased flexibility to introduce new data, even at later stages
• Timeline: end Q4 2026 or Q1 2027

The direction is clear: towards a more agile and flexible regulatory system.
