A businessman, strategist, writer and presenter, Mehmet has been viewed as an internationally recognized authority on energy business, geopolitics and economic diplomacy. He has built significant knowledge, experience and network with particular geographic focus on Europe, Turkey, Central Asia, Russia, Africa, the Middle East and China.

Based in London, Nice, and Istanbul, his professional career over the past 35 years has included high-level government, business, and public diplomacy engagements. A graduate of Ankara University, London School of Economics, COI and College d’Europe, he has an extensive portfolio of executive and non-executive roles in energy, glass, food and beverage, and mining sectors.

Currently, Mehmet chairs Global Resources Partnership, a UK strategic investment advisory group, serves as chairman of Middle East Institute, Washington DC, non-executive director, Trinus Capital, Dublin, and Chair of The Bosphorus Energy Club and The London Energy Club. A Partner of EUFocus, he also sits on the advisory board of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Previously, he was advisor to the Turkish prime minister, career diplomat in Ankara, Beijing, Brussels, worked as a senior staffer for International Energy Agency and OECD in Paris and then joined BG Group (now part of Shell). Until recently he sat on the boards of Genel Energy plc, Yasar Holding and Sisecam Group as independent non-executive director. He has served on the advisory boards of several multinational energy, high-tech, speed train, cyber-security, strategic communications and financial services companies such as Invensys, Dimetronics, Windsor Energy Group, and KCS Security.

Mehmet has built an extensive public roles profile and network. He is a regular contributor to Gulf Intelligence, Dünya, Bloomberg, CNBC, Hürriyet Daily News, Euroactiv, Moscow Times, Capital, CEOLIFE and OECD Observer. He is also a freelance speaker in international conferences and appears regularly on EkoTurk, France-24, Israel’s i24NEWS, BBC, NTV, CNNTurk, Moscow Times, Tahran Times, Romania’s Diplomatic Passport, BloombergHT. He has published more than a dozen books and hundreds of articles.
